The use of live traffic experiments, hyper-optimized statistical methods, and AI to split-test the world's population and optimize for target behaviors — more scrolling, more watching, more clicking. Google and Meta run thousands of experiments that subtly alter the behaviors, beliefs, and values of billions. Tristan Harris calls it "a race to the bottom of the brainstem."
